Here’s What You’ll Need
150g unsalted butter
200g caster sugar
170g self-raising flour
1 egg
4 tbsp whole milk
2 tbsp golden syrup
100g chocolate chips
1 tsp salt

Here's What You'll Do:
- Preheat oven to 200 ºC/180 fan ºC.
- Melt the butter and leave to the side to cool slightly.
- Add caster sugar, self-raising flour, egg, milk, golden syrup and salt to a bowl then add in melted butter. Stir until you have created a thick dough.
- Add chocolate chips into the dough and mix to combine.
- Take a tsp full of dough, roll it into a ball and then roll the ball in some additional sugar. Continue until all dough is used.
- Spread out dough balls on a prepared baking tray, leaving space between each to allow the mixture to spread. Flatten each ball slightly with a fork.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes.
- Once baked leave to cool slightly on the tray before transferring to a wire rack.
- Allow to cool fully before decorating
Decorate:
- Using a black writing icing tube add a smile to each cookie and two eyes. (These have lots of character if the eyes and smiles are all placed slightly differently.)
