Moustache Cupcakes

Looking for a fan-tash-tic baking idea this Father’s Day? Why not surprise Dad with some scrummy cupcakes topped with chocolatey moustaches – they couldn’t be easier to make using Choco Writers 🥸🍫

Here’s What You’ll Need To Make 12:

Here’s a cheeky tip: Instead of purchasing all the cupcake ingredients, you can skip straight to the fun part by buying a pack of your favourite ready-made cupcakes, or a pack of cupcake mix from your local supermarket!

For the chocolate cupcakes:

  • 100g Plain Flour
  • 20g Cocoa Powder
  • 140g Caster Sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp Baking Powder
  • 40g Unsalted Butter (room temperature)
  • 120ml Whole Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ tsp Vanilla Extract

Here's What You'll Do:

Bake Your Cupcakes:
  1. Pre-heat your oven to 180°C/ 160°C fan/ gas 4. 
  2. Starting with your dry ingredients, sift the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder in a large bowl. Add in the butter and whisk until everything is combined and you achieve a sandy consistency (you can always use an electric whisk to make it easier).
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg and vanilla extract. Once combined, slowly pour half of the mixture in the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix well. Pour in the rest of the wet ingredient mixture and continue mixing until everything is well combined and the mixture is nice and smooth.
  4. Pop your cupcake cases into a cupcake tray. Using a large tablespoon, fill each cupcake case half full with your delicious mixture.
  5. Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes (You’ll know they’re fully baked when you insert a wooden skewer and it comes out clean). When finished, remove from the oven and leave to completely cool.
Decorate:
  1.  While your chocolate cupcakes are cooling, let’s prepare the chocolate moustaches. Line up some parchment paper on a clean work surface. Prepare your Milk Choco Writer by placing it in a cup of hot water.
  2. Place your Vanilla Frosting in a piping bag with a piping nozzle attached. Take your cooled cupcakes and pipe the vanilla frosting on top of each of your cupcakes. 
  3. Once your Milk Choco Writer is ready, pipe up a moustache shape on top of your parchment paper. Create one moustache for each of your cupcakes. Once done, set aside for the chocolate moustaches to harden.
  4. Once your chocolate moustaches have hardened, carefully, using a butter knife, spoon or fork, lift them up from the parchment paper and gently place it on top of your cupcakes and enjoy!
