What You Need:
For The Cakes (amounts given make 12 cakes):
• Cake Decor Colour Gels in Colours Of Your Choice
• 120g Butter
• 120g Caster Sugar
• 2 Eggs
• 120g Self Raising Flour
• 1 tbsp Vanilla Essence
For the Frosting:
• 140g Butter
• 280g Icing Sugar
• 1-2 Tbsp Milk
What To Do:
Step 1 Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.
Step 2 Cream together your butter and caster sugar, then add in 2 eggs.
Step 3 Sieve in 120g self raising flour and whisk.
Step 4 Add in 1 tbsp vanilla essence and whisk.
Step 5 Depending on how many colours you want to use, separate your mixture into the appropriate number of bowls. Start by adding in a tsp of chosen colour to each bowl and whisk until it’s absorbed in, continue to add colouring at 1 tsp until the desired colour is achieved.
Step 6 Put your cakes into your oven for approx 18 minutes.
Step 7 Take your cakes out of the oven and place on a cooling rack.
Step 8 Once your cakes are cool prepare the buttercream frosting by beating the butter in a large bowl until soft, then adding in half of your icing sugar and beating again until smooth.
Step 9 Add the remaining icing sugar and 1 tbsp of milk and beat again until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If necessary add another tbsp of milk.
Step 10 Again depending on how many colours of frosting you want to make, separate your mixture into the appropriate number of bowls and add a 1/2 tsp of your chosen colour to each, stirring until it has gone through the mix and adding more at 1/2 tsp at a time if necessary until the desired colour is achieved.
Step 11 Pipe your frosting on to your cakes – we did the same colour of frosting as sponge, but you could always mix it up – and you’re done!
