Cake Trends – Textured Cakes

One of the biggest cake trends of 2016 is set to be textured cakes – whether they’re decorated with ruffles, frills, flowers or pleats. Texture can instantly make a cake look more interesting and is the perfect addition to wedding cakes as they look so soft and romantic. Some brides may even match the texture of the cake to the texture of their wedding dress. Today we wanted to share a few of our favourite textured cakes and we hope they can be of help if you’ve got any big occasions coming up!

Ruffles

Gorgeous ruffles add a soft and delicate feel to cakes as well as a texture that would be perfect for wedding cakes. This blush and gold wedding cake with ruffles is so simple yet effective, and would also great for a big birthday celebration or gathering! A ruffled layer can be paired with so many different colours or textures – the possibilities are endless!

Rosettes

This floral materpiece from Ashley Cakes would be a beautiful addition to any wedding. The combination of different textures makes the cake very interesting to look at and almost too pretty to eat! This style of cake would also be great for celebration cakes in the spring and summer months as florals are always huge at this time of year.

Intricate Patterns

Intricate designs or patterns are perfect for those who want a textured cake with a more subtle finish. The patterns can be raised ever so slightly to add more dimension to the cake, but aren’t too over-the-top or showy. Why not add a pop of colour with fondant roses and other flowers on top of the cake – perfect for spring and summer weddings!
